Reading Forms

So you may notice that this is the first and only blog post here.. there were many others, but I have realised one of the downfalls of switching templates and upgrading through squarespace, is that you may lose some of your content! So here we are…

On a more positive note, I am very contently working away on my project ‘Reading Forms’ for which I received funding from Creative Scotland, just at the end of last year. Reading Forms began over two years ago, almost 3! and came about following a long held interest I had in creating a site specific project. Innerpeffray Library, the location for this project, sits in a very isolated and atmospheric location around 20 minutes from my home in Comrie, Perthshire. Innerpeffray Library was Scotlands first free public lending Library and has an amazing history to it, which I won’t delve into here, but recommend a visit to their website to find out more. or a visit in person if you can… Innerpeffray Library

In 2022 I received a vacma award, which allowed a period of research and development for a site-specific project at Innerpeffray Library. Following this research the Library hosted a sharing event where I delivered an artists talk to an audience at the Library, to share my findings in addition to early developmental works and test pieces.

Moving forward to November last year, I got the wonderful news that after applying for funding to complete the project and form a finished exhibtion, my application was successful. As an artist in my 40’s, this is the first time I have received such funding, so it was/is a big deal and I am hugely grateful to Creative Scotland.

While this is my first post about the project and we are now in February, don’t be fooled, I have been working fairly flatout on the work for the exhibtion and will be sharing more of that development here in the coming months.

Snap from my desk here…

I am a fan of the uncanny podcast and have an episode of the show running in the background there, while drawing up a seperation for one of my screens.

An early pen and ink drawing from this body of work also, you’ll see the circles featuring in many of the pieces from this exhibtion.

More to come! Thanks for stopping by and please make a note in your diary to visit the Reading Forms Exhibtion, in May this year! It will run for full month of May. A more formal announcement to follow…
